Heathrow has submitted its latest plans for a third runway at Europeâs busiest airport. The total cost, including new terminals and infrastructure, will be ÂŁ49 billion pounds. The airport says expansion will create up to 40,000 new jobs and add 0.43% to the UKâs GDP by 2050. However, the plans will face fierce opposition from locals, politicians and climate campaigners. An Air India incident was narrowly averted at Mumbaiâs Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on July 21, 2025, when flight AI 2744, an Airbus A320 from Kochi, veered off the runway during heavy rainfall. While all passengers and crew were safe, three tyres burst and possible engine damage was reported. The Air India incident prompted activation of emergency response teams, and operations have shifted to the secondary runway as minor damage was sustained on the primary strip.

Fresh controversy has erupted over the fatal Air India crash in Gujaratâs Ahmedabad last month. A Wall Street Journal report claims a cockpit recording reveals the captain cut off the aircraftâs fuel midair, moments after takeoff. The first officer, reportedly panicked, questioned the captainâs move, as per the leaked cockpit transcript. Both pilots, Captain Sumeet Sabharwal and First Officer Clive Kunder, were killed along with 240 others onboard and 19 on the groundâonly one person survived. While the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau's (AIIB) preliminary report confirms both fuel switches were turned off within a second, it doesnât state whether the action was accidental or deliberate. Indiaâs Civil Aviation Minister urged restraint, saying no conclusions should be drawn yet. The Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) has strongly condemned the US media report, calling it speculative and harmful. Meanwhile, Air India completed checks on the Fuel Control Switches in all Boeing 787s with no issues found.
