Hours after Ukrainian drones struck deep into Russian territory, destroying over 40 aircraft, Russia responded.
Irkutsk region governor Igor Kobzev confirmed that the source of the Ukrainian drone launch had been “blocked and destroyed.” He added that the situation in Sridni and surrounding areas was “under complete control.” The drone strike—part of Ukraine’s “Pavutyna” operation—hit strategic airbases in Siberia, including Belaya and Olenya.
It marks the first such strike in Irkutsk.
The Russian reaction signals a turning point in how Moscow intends to confront Ukraine’s expanding drone warfare.
