A quiet afternoon in Santa Monica turned into chaos as gunshots rang out at a popular shopping mall. A suspectâlinked to a previous shooting involving a Waymo autonomous vehicleâallegedly shot two teenagers before ambushing a police officer during a foot chase. The officer, though seriously injured, is expected to recover. Authorities launched a citywide manhunt that ended with the suspect's arrest near Palisades Park just three hours later.
Santa Monica Police Chief Ramon Batista said the evidence strongly links the man to both shootings. The suspect, described as being in his 30s, was considered armed and dangerous. The 3rd Street Promenade was evacuated, and the public was urged to avoid the area during the tense search.
Mayor Lana Negrete praised the swift response of law enforcement and confirmed that the streets are now safe. Watch the full report for exclusive details, visuals, and police updates.
