Russian President Vladimir Putin has declared that Moscow continues scientific cooperation with Western experts despite heavy sanctions and political isolation. Speaking in Sarov, Russia’s nuclear hub, Putin insisted that science, like art and sports, cannot be destroyed by politics. He revealed that joint projects persist in nuclear, space, and medical research, even with some NATO states, while new ventures in nuclear medicine are emerging. According to Putin, Russia lost Finland as a partner but continues work with France, Germany, and Hungary through Rosatom. He stressed that Russia still supplies nuclear fuel and services to “unfriendly” countries, hinting that departing partners may eventually return. Putin also warned the West that restricting academic and scientific ties will inflict long-term damage. Despite sanctions, Russia and the U.S. recently extended collaboration on the International Space Station and discussed future lunar and deep-space missions.

Hungary and Slovakia have issued a joint letter to the European Union sharply criticizing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky after Ukrainian drones struck the Druzhba oil pipeline — a key energy lifeline for Central Europe. The move has fueled speculation that Budapest and Bratislava could distance themselves from Kyiv and shift their stance within NATO and the EU.

A major escalation in Europe’s energy war: Russian crude oil flows to Hungary and Slovakia through the Druzhba pipeline have been suspended after an alleged Ukrainian attack on a transformer station. Hungary’s Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó called the disruption “outrageous and unacceptable,” while Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry implied Hungary should blame Russia for starting the war. The halt comes just days before Trump, Zelensky, and EU leaders are set to meet — raising fresh questions about NATO unity, Europe’s energy security, and the future of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
