Hamas’ Al-Qassam Brigades ambushed Israeli troops and targeted IDF tanks with explosives and heavy fire. Video footage shows armored vehicles hit in the fighting, with reports of Israeli casualties. The ambush marks one of the deadliest encounters since Israel launched its Gaza City offensive under Operation Gideon’s Chariots II. As the conflict intensifies, both sides continue to trade blows amid mounting international concern over the humanitarian toll and the growing risk of wider escalation.

In a powerful announcement, the Israel Defense Forces and Shin Bet confirmed that a Hamas terrorist involved in the kidnapping of former hostage Yarden Bibas during the October 7, 2023 massacre was killed in an Israeli airstrike on August 10. The militant, Jihad Kamal Salem Najjar, participated in the deadly assault on Kibbutz Nir Oz, where Bibas and his family were abducted. While Bibas expressed partial closure after the strike, he reminded the nation that true justice will only come once all remaining abductees are freed. Bibas, released in February during a ceasefire deal, lost his wife Shiri and two young sons, Ariel (4) and Kfir (10 months), who were murdered in captivity. Their bodies were returned under the same deal. Since then, Bibas has been lobbying Israeli and American leaders to pressure Hamas for the release of dozens still held hostage, including his close friend David Cunio.

Seventeen U.S. Senate Democrats, led by a Jewish senator, are demanding accountability from Secretary of State Marco Rubio after a deadly Israeli airstrike in Gaza killed six journalists, including prominent Al Jazeera reporter Anas al-Sharif. Lawmakers called the strike part of Israel’s “systematic targeting of journalists,” accusing the Israeli government of silencing media voices exposing Gaza’s devastation. In their letter, the senators urged Rubio to press Israel for transparency, citing violations of international law and warning of risks to U.S. credibility and national security. Israel has claimed al-Sharif was tied to Hamas, but has offered no compelling evidence. The senators argue that targeting journalists is unacceptable and have demanded greater media access inside Gaza. The call underscores rising political pressure in Washington over Israel’s conduct in the war and its treatment of reporters covering one of the world’s most dangerous conflict zones.
