Olivier Vandecasteele is a Belgian humanitarian worker who was arbitrarily arrested in Iran on February 24th 2022 and sentenced to 28 years then 40 years in prison following a sham trial. Olivier has been kept hostage in Iran for 455 days and was released on May 26, 2023. Olivier has been kept in full isolation for 14 months in a tiny basement cell without a window and with the light constantly on 24/7. Amnesty International and experts of the United Nationshave recognised that Olivier had been subjected to enforced disappearance, torture and other ill-treatment. His case is considered to be "a flagrant violation of international law."
