IATA expects sustainable aviation fuel production to rise to 1.9 billion litres in 2024

IndiaTimes Wednesday, 6 December 2023
The global aviation industry is focusing on decarbonisation and aims to reduce carbon intensity by 5% by 2030. To achieve this, the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) will double to over 600 million litres this year and reach 1.875 billion litres in 2024. Stakeholders at the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) conference have agreed on a global framework to promote SAF production. Hydrotreatment (HEFA) production technology, using feedstock such as inedible animal fats, used cooking oil, and industrial grease, will be used in 85% of SAF facilities.
