When Ranjeet spent his salary on his co-stars

The iconic film 'Khote Sikkay', starring Feroz Khan, has recently marked its 50th anniversary. Interestingly, it was one of three movies inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s 'Seven Samurai', alongside 'Sholay' and 'Khoon Ki Kimat' starring Mahendra Sandhu. According to film historian Dilip Thakur, Feroz Khan was cast in the lead role only after Rajesh Khanna turned down the opportunity. Thakur also shared anecdotes from the set, revealing that actor Ranjeet arranged for daily supplies of rabdi for the crew, with the bill amounting to Rs 12,000, exceeding his own remuneration for the film. Furthermore, Thakur disclosed that Danny Denzongpa's pivotal role in 'Khote Sikkay' led to him rejecting a role in Ramesh Sippy’s 'Sholay', which ultimately took longer to complete and release, hitting theaters a year after 'Khote Sikkay'.
