Labour not treating election as done deal as Sunak makes Starmer wait
Thursday, 28 March 2024 No wonder the Labour Party is desperate for a general election now and bitterly disappointed that Rishi Sunak has "bottled it", in Keir Starmer's words, and is sticking to his plan not to hold it until the autumn at the earliest.
The Labour leader hailed the win by his party’s candidate David Skaith in the York and North Yorkshire mayoral election, an area he described as “the heart of Tory territory”. Appearing at Northallerton Town Football Club with new mayor Mr Skaith, Sir Keir said: “It’s an amazing moment in history, to have a Labour victory here.''
