'Shocked and amazed': remains of British researcher found in a glacier
Monday, 11 August 2025 () The remains of a British researcher have been recovered from a glacier in Antarctica, more than 60 years after a scientific expedition went badly wrong.
In a dramatic high-risk rescue, three American researchers were evacuated from Antarctica’s remote McMurdo Station after a serious medical emergency. Carried out by the Royal New Zealand Air Force, the nearly 20-hour mission involved landing on a pitch-black ice runway in -11°F temperatures. This rare and dangerous operation highlights the extreme challenges of saving lives in one of the most isolated places on Earth.
