Opposition parties meet President, seek recall of ‘diabolical’ CAA
Tuesday, 17 December 2019 Opposition parties knocked on the doors of President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday and sought his intervention on violence in central universities over protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Representatives of at least 12 parties, including Congress, CPM, CPI, DMK, SP, TMC, RJD, National Conference, IUML and AIUDF were part of the delegation.

The nation is celebrating 145th birth anniversary of 'ironman' Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on October 31. President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Delhi LG Anil Baijal paid him floral tribute. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel had served as the first deputy prime minister of India.
Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee shifted their Rail Roko protest from Devi Dasspura railway station to Jandiala station. They continued to protest against new farm laws. State Secretary of Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee, Sarvan Singh Pandher said, "Due to mist drops falling from overhead wires on Devidasspura rail track, few of us got electrocuted, so we'd to shift here." President Ram Nath Kovind had given his assent to new farm laws on September 27.
A court in Tumakuru district of Karnataka on Friday directed the police to register an FIR against actress Kangana Ranaut on her recent tweet allegedly targeting farmers protesting the farm laws. Based on a complaint by a lawyer L Ramesh Naik, the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court directed the inspector of Kyathasandra police station to register an FIR against the actress. The court said the complainant had filed an application under section 156(3) of the CrPC for investigation. The actress had tweeted on September 21 from her Twitter handle @KanganaTeam: "People who spread misinformation and rumours about CAA that caused riots are the same people who are now spreading misinformation about Farmers bill and causing terror in the nation, they are terrorists. Jharkhand Chief Minister, Hemant Soren spoke on Agricultural Reform Bills on Sep 18. He said, "As you are seeing that people are continuously protesting against Centre's policies. People are opposing their policies, whether it is related to farmers, CAA, GST or New Education Policy. I don't know how centre government form all these policies or define them but the reality is different. This is related to farmers and has drawbacks. Centre government should think about it."
During a roadshow in Bihar's Hajipur on October 31, BJP national president JP Nadda questioned RJD's poll promise of providing 10 lakh jobs and said how will they give 10 lakh jobs, they made over 20 lakh people migrate from Bihar. "How will they give 10 lakh jobs? They made over 20 lakh people leave Bihar. They should first tender an apology. Why did Nitish Kumar ji leave them? Because misgovernance and good governance cannot go hand-in-hand," said Nadda on RJD's poll promise.
Minister of State (MoS) for Health and Family Welfare, Ashwini Kumar Choubey hit at Congress and RJD and asked to be aware of 'Gappu, Pappu and Lappu'. He said, "One who couldn't even pass 10th standard is commenting on Nitish Kumar who had been an engineer. These Congress and RJD people wrote the story of corruption. So, be aware of these Gappu, Pappu and Lappu."
RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav lambasted at Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over Munger violence and compared the incident with Jallianwala Bagh massacre. He said that CM Kumar didn't expressed condolences with the family of the deceased person. Yadav also said that Bihar CM repeated Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Munger.
