Prime Minister Narendra Modi released financial assistance of around Rs 2691 crore to 6.1 lakh beneficiaries in Uttar Pradesh, under Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana - Gramin (PMAY-G) via video conferencing. "In the past few years, around 2 crore houses have been built in rural areas alone. Under Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana, keys of 1.25 crore houses have been handed over to people. Around Rs 1.50 Lakh Crores has been given by Central Govt alone, to build these houses," said PM Narendra Modi.

The felicitation ceremony was held during the celebrations. For the first time ever, Indian Army demonstrated combat swarm drones at the parade. Army Day is celebrated on Jan 15 every year. On this day in 1949, Field Marshal KM Cariappa became the first Indian to take charge of the Indian Army.

Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan inaugurated the 'Burn and Plastic Surgery' block at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi on January 18. “It is a matter of joy for AIIMS family as a golden chapter has been added to its development. An exclusive state of the art department for burns and plastic surgery has been added. All facilities related to burns and plastic surgery will be available here,” said Dr Harsh Vardhan. He added, “Nearly 70 lakh people across the country are victim of burns per year. Out of these, nearly 1.4 lakh people succumb to death. Roughly, every four minutes, one person dies due to burns.” Dr Harsh Vardhan also congratulated AIIMS Director, Dr Randeep Guleria and Burn and Plastic Surgery Block Head, Maneesh Singhal for their efforts. State of the art department for burns and plastic surgery has been newly added in the All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences, informed Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan. "It is a matter of joy for AIIMS family as a golden chapter has been added to its development. An exclusive state of the art department for burns and plastic surgery begins here, all facilities related to burns and plastic surgery is available here. We all know that every year in our county, more than 70 lakh people become victim of burns. The facilities for burns and plastic surgeries require improvement on a large scale and in the same direction this new department in the AIIMS hospital has been inaugurated," said Dr Harsh Vardhan on January 18.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met his Nepalese counterpart Pradip Kumar Gyawali at the Hyderabad house in the capital. The two sides discussed all bilateral issues with focus on economy, trade, power, oil and gas, water resources, political and security issues, border management. Nepal also congratulated India on the remarkable success in the production of Covishield and Covaxin vaccines in India and requested for early provision of vaccines to Nepal. The two delegations included Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla and Foreign Secretary of Nepal, Bharat Raj Paudyal and other senior officials from both sides. Discussions were also held on expediting joint hydropower projects, including the proposed Pancheshwar Multipurpose Project, which have numerous benefits for the people of both countries. Nepal's Foreign Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali Thursday arrived in India. He will attend the 6th meeting of the Nepal-India Joint Commission and discuss the entire gamut of relations, including COVID-19 cooperation and border disputes, with his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar. Gyawali is the senior-most political leader from Nepal to visit India after Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli triggered a border row last year by publishing a new political map that showed the three Indian territories - Limpiyadhura, Kalapani, and Lipulekh - as part of Nepal.
