‘New Congress President in June 2021’: KC Venugopal after CWC meet

A new Congress president will be elected in June 2021, said party leader KC Venugopal after the CWC meeting. ‘The CWC discussed the schedule of Congress president's elections in May-end, proposed by its election authority. All CWC members unanimously requested Congress president that the internal elections should not interfere with the assembly elections,’ KC Venugopal said. Sonia Gandhi took over as the interim Congress president in August 2019 after Rahul Gandhi resigned in the wake of the party's Lok Sabha debacle in May 2019. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi arrived at Kozhikode airport in Kerala on January 27. The former party chief inaugurated a building of Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Wandoor town on January 27. He is on a two-day visit to Wayanad. Rahul Gandhi is the Member of Parliament from Wayanad.

Rahul Gandhi alleged prior information on Balakot air strike was leaked to a journalist. The Congress leader accused Prime Minister Modi of ‘leaking information’. Rahul was speaking to media in Karur on the 3rd day of his three-day visit to Tamil Nadu. “If the information was available to a journalist, if it was on WhatsApp, I'm sure the enemy forces can also have access. I'm asking a very simple question, why is it that there is no inquiry on this?" Gandhi said responding to a question. “Only these five people knew. Somebody out of these five people had told the journalist. If it is not the Prime Minister, why has he not ordered an inquiry and said that treason has taken place? Somebody out of these five people has put the nation and Indian Air Force at risk. I want to find out who it is. Why has he (Prime Minister) not done that? Motorists driving on wrong side to face strict action in Gurugram

Gurugram ACP (Crime), Preet Pal Singh informed that strict action to be taken against those found driving on the wrong side of the road. "Challan will be issued and driving licence will be suspended, if the offence is repeated, the licence will be terminated," said Preet Pal Singh.

CRPF, ITBP jawans rehearse ahead of 72nd Republic Day

Ahead of Republic Day parade, Central Reserve Police Force and ITBP jawans carried out rehearsals in parts of country. ITBP jawans carried out their daily rehearsals at the Rajpath on January 16. Similarly, CRPF and ITBP jawans did a joint band rehearsal in Gurugram for 26th January celebrations. The numbers of jawans in the parade have been reduced this year in wake of COVID-19. India will celebrate 72nd Republic Day on January 26. On this day, Indian Constitution came into effect in 1950.

Delhi-NCR wakes up to sound of hailstorm and rain

Parts of national capital and Haryana's Gurugram received hailstorm and rain on January 06. However, the continuous rainfall in Delhi kept the minimum temperature at tolerable level of around 12 Degree Celsius. Water logging was also reported in some places due to the continuous downpour. According to IMD, thunderstorm with light to moderate intensity rain would occur over and adjoining areas of many places in Delhi and surrounding region. IMD predicted maximum temperature for the day at around 22 Degree Celsius.

Heavy rains lead to water-logging in parts of Gurugram

After heavy rainfall in Haryana's Gurugram on January 03, water-logging was observed in some parts of the city. Pataudi road and some areas of Sector 10 received heavy rainfall on Sunday. IMD had also predicted wet spell over Northwest and adjoining Central India during Jan 03 to Jan 06, 2021 and abatement of cold wave and cold day conditions in Northwest India from January 03.

Sasikala walks free after four years in jail

After spending four years in jail in connection with disproportionate assets case, former All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) leader VK Sasikala has been released from the Central Prison, Bengaluru on January 27. Sasikala has been officially released as on 11 am today. She was shifted to Victoria Hospital on January 21 and was tested positive for COVID-19. As per protocol, she will be discharged on 10th day if she is asymptomatic and free of oxygen support for at least 3 days, said Bangalore Medical College. However, Sasikala will remain in the hospital as she is being treated for the COVID-19 infection. Sasikala's advocate, Raja Senthoor Pandian informed, "All formalities have been completed. She is set free from all legal formalities. She will remain at the hospital as per medical advice."

COVID-19: Over 20 lakh people vaccinated in India

A total of 20,29,480 beneficiaries have been vaccinated in India for COVID-19 by January 27. Country reported 12,689 new COVID-19 cases and 13,320 discharges in last 24 hours. With new infections, the COVID tally of the country stood at 1,06,89,527, with 1,76,498 active cases. Total of 1,03,59,305 patients have been discharged across the country. With 137 deaths in the last 24 hours, the death toll rose to 1,53,724. A total of 19,36,13,120 samples tested for COVID-19 up to 26th January. Of these, 5,50,426 samples were tested yesterday.
