Seven more states to administer Covaxin from next week: Health ministry
Saturday, 23 January 2021 Seven more states will be administering the indigenously-developed Covaxin from next week, the health ministry said on Saturday. In addition to the 12 states currently using Covaxin, seven new states -- Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and West Bengal -- will be administering it. 15,37,190 beneficiaries have been vaccinated for Covid-19 in India.

Bharat Biotech's COVID-19 vaccine, 'COVAXIN' has demonstrated an interim vaccine efficacy of 80.6% in its Phase 3 clinical trial. "Today is an important day for us, country and Indian science. COVAXIN has demonstrated an interim vaccine efficacy of around 80.6% in its Phase 3 clinical trial. The trials involved 25,800 subjects, the largest ever conducted in India, in partnership with ICMR," Bharat Biotech chairman Dr Krishna Ella.
After emerging victorious in Gujarat municipal corporation and zila panchayat elections, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar held a press conference on March 03. Stating number comparison between results of 2015 and 2021 elections, Javadekar said that Congress has been completely wiped off. "Last week in Gujarat MCD elections over 6 seats, and BJP emerged victorious on all seats. But the results that came out yesterday for over 31 district panchayat, which basically includes voters who belong to villages and are farmers. Last time in 2015, Congress won 22 district panchayat seats and BJP was at 9. But this time, BJP has won all 31 seats and Congress has been wiped out completely. BJP has won 80% seats out of 979," said Prakash Javadekar.
Police seized counterfeit currency notes with face value of Rs 7.9 crore in Sunki Village of Odisha's Koraput district. Cops arrested three persons in this connection. All the notes were of the Rs 500 denomination. The three accused were carrying the counterfeit currency notes in a car. A team of the police intercepted the vehicle and found the fake notes while search. The vehicle was heading towards Visakhapatnam from Raipur. The three accused are residents of Chhattisgarh.
Southern Sporting Union (SSU), Singjamei defeated Eastern Sporting Union (ESU) team 3-2 in an entertaining final match to clinch the title of the '11th Shaheed Manoranjan Singh Memorial Football Tournament' organised by 143 Battalion of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) at SAI Sports Complex, Imphal on February 28. The tournament was organised in memory of late assistant commandant Manoranjan Singh who made the supreme sacrifice while encountering Naxalites in Chhattisgarh in 2009. Both the finalists started the game cautiously and canceled out attempts from the opposing ends until, Eastern Sporting Union Team (ESU) found the breakthrough in the 28th minute off a fine strike by Thumsol Tongsin. The runners up team, ESU received a trophy and a cash prize of Rs 1, 50,000. Third-placed, Classic FA and fourth-placed, WAFA, Wangoi were respectively feted with cash prizes of Rs 35,000 and Rs 15,000 besides trophies. The ceremony was also attended by Ng Memcha, mother of Shaheed Manoranjan Singh; Randeep Datta PMG, IGP, MandN Sector CRPF; senior officers of state administration, Army, Police, CAPFs among others. The tournament saw participation of 28 teams from across the state.

Youth Congress' Delhi wing on March 2 staged protest outside Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas over the fuel price hike. The workers of Youth Congress demanded Centre Government to reduce the prices. Petrol price in Delhi stands at Rs 91.17 per litre while that of diesel is at Rs 81.47. An architect in Punjab’s Bathinda has built a vehicle inspired by the Rafale. The jet-shaped vehicle can run at a speed of 15 to 20 kmph. The vehicle, that cost ₹ 3 lakhs to build, is painted light blue and has no roof. The vehicle has side view mirrors and is also equipped with a windshield. The architect of the vehicle, Rampal Behaniwal, said that he first had the idea when he saw the Rafale jets land in India and added that the vehicle will be displayed soon at a cultural park. An architect from Punjab's Bathinda designed a vehicle inspired by Rafale. The jet-shaped vehicle runs at 15-20km/h speed in Bathinda's Rama Mandi. "This (vehicle) cost me about Rs 3 lakh and will be displayed in my (soon to be launched) cultural park for people, who can't afford flying so that they can fulfil their dream in some or the other way. Its name 'Punjab Rafale' is inspired from Rafale (jets)," said Rampal Behaniwal, Architect.
While speaking to media in the national capital after meeting the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) on March 04, National General Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Bhupender Yadav said, "A BJP delegation met ECI today. Term of 125 municipal corporations in West Bengal including Kolkata Municipal Corporation ended a year ago. But state government appointed Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders as administrators of these local bodies." "These administrators should be removed to ensure free and fair polls," he added.
West Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh is confident of the party's win in state assembly polls. Ghosh said that BJP will sweep Bengal polls by 200 of the total 294 Assembly seats. "We (BJP) are ready for the fight in the West Bengal Assembly elections. TMC is scared of losing, its ministers are asking other parties to join them. We will not get less than 200 (seats), it will definitely be more than 200. We did not begin preparations today, we had started five years back. We have proceeded phase-wise, we all saw results in Lok Sabha elections. We are going ahead with the mantra of '19 mein half, 21 mein saaf," he said. Elections to 294-member West Bengal Assembly will begin on March 27. The eight-phase polling will conclude on April 29, results on May 2. Bengal is likely to see a triangular contest with TMC, Congress-Left alliance and BJP in the fray.

Singer Aditi Munshi joined TMC in presence of party MP Sougata Roy in Kolkata during a press conference. She is the wife of North 24 Parganas Trinamool Youth Congress president Debraj Chakraborty.
