Amid soaring price, man in Chennai sells tomato at Rs 20/kg

Even as tomato prices are soaring across the country, a vendor in Cuddalore district sold the veggie for just 20 per kilo to mark the fourth anniversary of his shop on Friday. D Rajesh, 38, proprietor of D R vegetable and onion shop at Sellankuppam in the district said he procured 550kg of tomatoes from Bengaluru at 60 per kg (including the transportation cost) and sold it for 20 per kg at a loss of 40 per kg to help the poor and needy on the fourth anniversary of his shop.
