Robust rains accelerate rice planting in India
Saturday, 5 August 2023
India's farmers have planted 28.3 million hectares of summer-sown rice so far this year, up 3.28% from the same period in 2019, according to the farm ministry. Robust monsoon rains encouraged the expansion of acreage, which eases concerns about a lower output of rice this year. Almost half of India's farmland lacks irrigation, making the monsoon an essential part of the growing season.
