Postmaster accused of siphoning off Rs 4cr on the run

The postmaster of a post office in Augautha area of Mainpuri district in Uttar Pradesh, India, has been accused of embezzling Rs 4 crore from the accounts of residents in at least 16 villages. The scam was discovered when villagers went to withdraw their savings but found no money in their accounts. The postmaster, Omprakash Shakya, is currently on the run. The police have filed a case against him, and an internal probe has been ordered by the postal department.
