83 MBBS seats vacant in Tamil Nadu, may go waste

IndiaTimes Friday, 13 October 2023
There are 83 vacant MBBS seats in Tamil Nadu, including 16 in government-run medical colleges and 3 in AIIMS, Madurai. This is a result of the flawed policy of the National Medical Council (NMC), which refuses to surrender vacant seats even after the completion of counselling. These seats were not filled even after four rounds of online counselling. Unless the NMC or the government takes action, these seats will remain unfilled. Students and counsellors are urging the state to move the Supreme Court to ensure that high-demand seats in government colleges are filled.
