Karnataka: Onion prices double in a week, go the tomato way

IndiaTimes Monday, 30 October 2023
Onion prices in Karnataka have doubled in the past week due to severe drought-like conditions in the North Karnataka region, resulting in reduced onion production. Wholesale prices in Bengaluru reached Rs 70 per kg, compared to Rs 50 last week, while retail prices stood at Rs 70 and Rs 39. The prices are expected to further increase, and officials predict that they may reach Rs 100 later this week. The shortage of supply from local farmers has led to sourcing onions from Maharashtra and neighbouring districts.
