Supreme Court to govt: Will you remove opacity of electoral bonds?
Thursday, 2 November 2023
The Supreme Court of India has called for reforms to the opaque electoral bond scheme, which allows corporate houses to anonymously donate to political parties. The court asked the government whether it would amend the Companies Act to cap the percentage of profit that can be used for political funding. The court outlined five considerations for keeping black money out of the electoral system, including reducing cash, ensuring transactions through authorized banking channels, incentivizing transparency, and curbing kickbacks.
