Bengaluru to get 24tmcft of Cauvery water every year

IndiaTimes Wednesday, 8 November 2023
The Karnataka government has directed the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board to reserve 24tmcft of Cauvery water annually for drinking water purposes in Bengaluru and surrounding areas. This comes after the Supreme Court had allocated 33tmcft of water for the drinking water needs of the Cauvery basin, including Bengaluru, but no action had been taken by previous governments. The government is also pushing for the implementation of the Mekedatu reservoir project, which will benefit both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu in times of water scarcity.
