To end rapes, stop treating women as property: Gujarat court

Botad special Pocso court judge D G Rana sentenced a 39-year-old man, Raju Chauhan, to life imprisonment for the rape and murder of a 9-year-old girl. The court directed the state government to pay Rs 10 lakh compensation to the girl's family and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on Chauhan. The judge emphasized the need to change the mindset of viewing women as property and to practice high moral values. The court's order highlighted that such crimes are not exceptional and many go unreported. The case was investigated by Deputy superintendent of police Maharshi Raval, police inspector V B Desai, and their team, who produced 64 pieces of evidence during the trial.
