Rajasthan polls: Pakistani migrant couple vote for the first time

IndiaTimes Sunday, 26 November 2023
Ashok and Nirmala Maheshwari, who left Hyderabad in Pakistan due to religious persecution, voted in Jaipur's Sanganer constituency. After eight years of scrutiny, they obtained Indian citizenship in 2022. Their children are still awaiting citizenship. The Maheshwaris expressed excitement about voting in the upcoming Indian parliamentary elections. Nirmala praised the transparency of the electoral process in India compared to Pakistan, where religion dominates. She thanked the government but questioned the delay in granting citizenship to Hindu migrants from Pakistan, including her children.
