After onion, garlic now gets costlier, prices hit Rs 400/kg

IndiaTimes Sunday, 10 December 2023
The prices of garlic have skyrocketed in Navi Mumbai, causing lasoon chutney and garlic tadlaa dishes to be taken off the menu. The increase in prices is due to poor crop caused by adverse weather conditions in Nashik and Pune, leading to a decline in supply. Wholesale traders from Mumbai are now procuring supplies from Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan, resulting in higher logistic costs. The retail price of garlic has doubled, causing a pinch for consumers. The situation is not expected to improve soon.
