2 kids dead due to safety lapses, resort told to pay parents Rs 1.99 crore

A Kochi consumer court has ordered an adventure resort in Pune to pay Rs 1.99 crore to a couple who lost their two sons due to safety lapses - one of the highest sums decreed in such cases in the state. The duo drowned in a pond at the facility in Oct 2020. Kochi's PV Prakashan and wife Vanaja had sued the proprietors of Karandi Valley in the Ernakulam district consumer disputes redressal commission over the deaths of sons Midhun, 30 and Nidhin, 24. The parents initially demanded Rs 6 crore but reduced it later to Rs 1.99 cr with a request for 12% interest from the date of their complaint.
