In the first AI-generated voice fraud case in Lucknow, a 25-year-old man named Kartikeya was tricked into transferring Rs 44,500 to a fraudster's account. The fraudster used an artificially created voice to impersonate Kartikeya's distant uncle and convince him to transfer the money. Cyber experts confirmed that this is the first case of AI-generated voice fraud. The fraudster sent messages of transactions totaling Rs 90,000 and asked Kartikeya to send the money to a UPI number. Kartikeya transferred Rs 44,500 before realizing it was a scam.
