Sunday, 24 December 2023 As the biting cold gripped North India, a village deep in the southern region recorded temperatures falling below 0°C. Thalaikundha village, situated in Tamil Nadu's Nilgiris district, recorded a minimum temperature of 0°C on Sunday. The bitter cold gripping the village, located in the elevated regions of Tamil Nadu, prompted the residents, who were not accustomed to such extremely low temperatures, to hastily seek refuge indoors, disrupting normal life. Facing the harsh chill, the locals remained mostly indoors, as per sources.

Polling in 102 parliamentary seats across 21 states and Union Territories in the first phase of Lok Sabha Elections commenced at 7 am on April 19 and ended at 6 pm. Over 102 parliamentary constituencies in 21 states and union territories headed to the polling booth on Friday, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. West Bengal recorded the highest turnout till 5 PM at 77.57 per cent, followed by Tripura at 76.10 per cent. Voter turnout in Assam stood at 70.77 per cent, while Manipur recorded a voter turnout of 68.58 per cent till 5 PM.
