UP gangster shot in police encounter
Uttar Pradesh Police's Special Task Force (STF) gunned down gangster Vinod Upadhyay (48) in an encounter in Sultanpur. Upadhyay, who had a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his arrest, had 45 cases pending against him, including murder and dacoity. The STF team received information about Upadhyay planning to kill a businessman and chased him for 2-3 km before he lost control and hit a cemented block. In retaliatory firing, Upadhyay sustained bullet injuries and was pronounced dead at Sultanpur hospital. A submachine gun and a 30mm pistol were recovered from the encounter site.
