Abolish Places of Worship Act, demands BJP MP in Rajya Sabha

IndiaTimes Monday, 5 February 2024
On Monday, BJP MP Harnath Singh Yadav called for the abolition of the Places of Worship Act, 1991, contending that the law encroaches upon the religious freedoms of Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, and Buddhists as guaranteed by the Constitution. The Act prohibits the conversion of any place of worship and mandates the preservation of the religious identity of such places as it stood on August 15, 1947.
