Erach, 70km from present-day Jhansi, is believed to have been King Hiranyakashipu's capital where Holika sat in a fire with Prahlad and was reduced to ashes, while Prahlad came out unscathed. Erach, revered as a major Buddhist site, is mentioned in Buddhist scripture Petavatthu as Erikachha or Erakachha and was a prominent city in the "Dasanna janapada".
