Malin farmers give up ‘padkai’ farming that triggered disaster in 2014

The tragic landslide in Malin on July 30, 2014, which claimed 151 lives, was attributed to the tribal farming practice called 'padkai.' This practice involved using earth movers to flatten hillsides for paddy cultivation, significantly contributing to the disaster. Following the event, regulations were imposed, and participation in the scheme drastically reduced, leading to its possible closure.
