Food ministry launches ‘Anna Chakra’ to optimize PDS supply chain, save Rs 250 cr annually
Thursday, 5 December 2024 The Indian government launched 'Anna Chakra,' a tool developed with the World Food Programme and IIT-Delhi, to optimize the foodgrain supply chain under the Public Distribution System (PDS). This system uses algorithms to optimize routes, potentially saving Rs 250 crore annually and reducing transport distances by 15-50%. A pilot project across 30 states and UTs has already shown promising results.
The Yemeni Houthis have escalated their confrontation with Israel by storming UN offices in Sana’a and Hodeidah, detaining at least eleven staff members, including UNICEF and WFP workers. Houthis accused them of spying for the U.S. and Israel, a charge the UN strongly rejects. UN chief António Guterres condemned the raids and demanded immediate release of personnel, warning the detentions violate international law and threaten aid operations. The raids come days after Israel killed Houthi PM Ahmed Al-Rahawi, heightening fears of wider war.
