A TOI team's arduous 26-hour trek revealed a deserted landscape of debris, with countless people feared buried. Rescue teams and villagers search for signs of life and salvage what remains.
A devastating cloudburst has hit Dharali in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, killing at least four people and leaving many missing. The Kheer Gadh river swelled violently, sweeping away homes, hotels, and entire villages near Harsil in seconds. Visuals show buildings crumbling under massive floodwaters. Over 20 hotels and homestays are feared destroyed. Massive rescue operations led by the Army, NDRF, SDRF, and local police are underway. CM Pushkar Singh Dhami and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are monitoring the situation. IMD had issued a heavy rainfall warning before the disaster.
