Scientists discover new way to fight diabetes: How targeting gut microbes could transform treatment

IndiaTimes Wednesday, 27 August 2025 ()
Canadian scientists have pioneered a novel diabetes management approach by targeting a gut molecule, D-lactate. This molecule, produced by gut microbes, elevates blood sugar and fat storage. The team's 'gut substrate trap' captured D-lactate, leading to improved blood sugar, reduced insulin resistance, and healthier livers in obese mice, without dietary changes.
