Saturday Night Live has always been one of the most important shows on the US TV schedules – whether or not you always find the skits or guest hosts to your own flavor of humor, it’s hard to believe that the comedy showcase has been running for as many decades as it has. It’s made big stars of household names such as Chevy Chase and Will Ferrell – and it’s never one to shy away from being particularly pithy with certain news stories and famous personalities. For one, Alec Baldwin has been trading off of his Donald Trump impression for some years now – to the extent that the US President tweeted in anger about how ‘unfunny’ the show had become in light of his satirical counterpart.
SNL dove a little further into Trumpian sagas this past week as, within a classic cold opening, a number of big stars made their mark portraying some of the big names embroiled in White House drama this past few months. Martin Short appeared as Trump’s former doctor Harold Bornstein – Scarlett Johansson as the President’s daughter Ivanka Trump – and Ben Stiller as Trump’s attorney, Michael Cohen, who has been at the center of a scandal involving a payoff made to adult actress Stormy Daniels with regard to an affair she had with Trump in 2006. Speaking of Daniels, she was represented there too – by herself.
In a move that many weren’t expecting, the skit came to a close with Stiller’s Cohen attempting to discuss matters with the real Daniels with Baldwin’s classic Trump caricature in on the call. “What are you wearing?” Trump asks – and making light of both the President’s beliefs on global warming and in terms of the legal action she is currently taking against Cohen, Daniels left the skit with a rather telling piece of dialogue. “I know you don’t believe in climate change,” she advises Trump, “But a storm’s a-comin’, baby.”

Daniels’ appearance on SNL is one of many high-profile media appearances the adult actress has made since electing to speak out against what she has claimed to be a threat made by Trump representatives towards her and her young daughter. Daniels is reportedly pressing to sue Cohen over a Non-Disclosure Agreement and, with Cohen electing to largely remain quiet on such issues, things remain rather foggy as to what may happen next in this particular saga.
