Workers exposed to extreme heat have no consistent protection in the United States

The rising deaths and injuries of workers due to extreme heat in the US, exacerbated by climate change, are being highlighted by a historic heatwave this summer. Many of these workers are migrants in low-wage jobs, and protections for them have generally lagged behind. Currently, there is no federal heat standard in the US, although some states are adopting their own versions of heat safety programs.
