Pakistan state airline grounds dozens of flights over fuel bills

IndiaTimes Wednesday, 18 October 2023
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has cancelled dozens of domestic and international flights due to a lack of funds to pay for fuel. The state-run carrier is facing a financial crisis and is unable to pay its dues to Pakistan State Oil on time. PIA has liabilities of 743 billion rupees ($2.5 billion), surpassing its assets by five times. The government plans to privatize the airline as part of a broader privatization initiative for state-run companies.
