Iran jails 2 journalists who covered hijab death row, for 'collaborating with US'

IndiaTimes Monday, 23 October 2023
Two journalists in Iran have been sentenced to up to seven years in prison for collaborating with the US government and other charges. Niloufar Hamedi and Elaheh Mohammadi were imprisoned for over a year following their coverage of Mahsa Amini's death in police custody. The New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists has condemned the decision and called for their release. The journalists were charged with collaborating with the US government, colluding against national security, and propaganda against the system. Their detentions have sparked international criticism over the security force crackdown after Amini's death.
