Salmonella outbreak hits 22 states, pre-cut onions linked to 73 illnesses

An outbreak of salmonella poisoning has affected at least 73 people across 22 US states. The outbreak is linked to the consumption of pre-packaged, precut onions. Gills Onions, based in California, has issued a recall for various onion products. The affected items were distributed to food establishments in the US and Canada and sold by retailers in several states. Health authorities are advising against consuming or serving any of these onion products or any food items prepared with them. Investigations are ongoing to determine the source and if there are any other affected products.
