Catalan separatist keeps Spain waiting on government deal
Friday, 3 November 2023 Acting Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez is seeking the support of Catalan separatist leader Carles Puigdemont to form a new government. Puigdemont, who is in self-imposed exile in Belgium, is demanding an amnesty for those involved in Catalonia's failed push for independence in 2017. The proposal has received support from Catalonia's other main separatist party, the ERC, but Puigdemont is hesitant to strike a deal with the Socialists due to a power struggle within the independence movement.
