Ukrainian war veterans with amputated limbs find freedom in the practice of jiu-jitsu

IndiaTimes Sunday, 5 November 2023
War veterans in Ukraine, many of whom have lost limbs due to injuries sustained in the conflict with Russia, are finding solace and empowerment in the practice of Brazilian jiu-jitsu. The sport, which focuses on using an opponent's force against them, can be adapted for individuals with amputations. The veterans, who have formed a community at the TMS Hub gym in Kyiv, recently competed in the Ukrainian national championship in the "para jiu-jitsu" category. The program aims to provide psychological rehabilitation and a sense of community for veterans who have experienced similar traumas.
