US lawmakers urge to withhold further assistance to Pakistan

Eleven members of the US Congress have written a letter to US State Secretary Antony Blinken, urging the Biden administration to withhold US assistance to Pakistan until the country holds free and fair elections and restores constitutional order. The lawmakers also expressed concern about proposed changes to the blasphemy law, warning that it would further persecute religious minorities. The letter highlighted cases of religious persecution, restrictions on freedom of expression, enforced disappearances, and the harassment of political opponents and human rights defenders in Pakistan.
