European Union lawmakers back rules to increase consumer goods repair rights
Tuesday, 21 November 2023
EU lawmakers have agreed on measures to increase the repair of goods such as washing machines and smartphones, in an effort to reduce waste. The proposed law obliges sellers to repair products for free within the two-year guarantee period, and provide repairs for up to 10 years after sale. The rules also aim to make spare parts more affordable and accessible to independent repairers. The European Parliament will need to agree on a final text with EU governments before the law can be implemented.
