Lithuanian president demands 'punishment' for Russian book thefts

Lithuanian president Gitanas Nauseda calls for severe punishment for those responsible for thefts of rare 19th-century Russian books from libraries in Eastern Europe. Lithuania was targeted by thefts of rare Russian classics, worth 440,000 euros. The theft from the library of Vilnius University is under investigation. Similar thefts occurred in Estonia, Latvia, and Poland, with each case involving Russian classic literature. The University of Warsaw suffered the most substantial losses, with an estimated value of stolen books at around a million euros.
