After US vetoes UN truce push, Israel hits north & south Gaza

IndiaTimes Saturday, 9 December 2023
Israel continues airstrikes and artillery attacks on the north and south of the Gaza Strip. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has invoked Article 99 of the UN Charter to warn of a 'humanitarian catastrophe' in Gaza. The US vetoed a UN resolution for an immediate ceasefire, stating that it would allow Hamas to continue ruling Gaza. An Israeli man taken hostage by Hamas militants has died during a rescue mission. The death toll in Gaza has surpassed 17,400, with over 46,000 wounded. In the West Bank, two Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces.
