Ex-high ranking FBI agent gets prison term for helping Russian oligarch
Friday, 15 December 2023 Former FBI special agent, Charles McGonigal, has been sentenced to over four years in prison and fined $40,000 for providing information to a Russian oligarch in violation of US sanctions. McGonigal, who led a counterintelligence division, received a payment for laundering money from a Russian bank to his private account. The judge, Jennifer H Rearden, stated that the sentence was meant to balance McGonigal's 22 years of FBI service with the seriousness of his crimes. McGonigal also awaits another sentencing for concealing payments from a former Albanian intelligence officer.
