UN pushes for more aid into Gaza, Israel widens offensive

IndiaTimes Friday, 22 December 2023
The UN Security Council approved a resolution that calls for expanded humanitarian access to Gaza and the creation of conditions for a sustainable cessation of hostilities. The US abstained from voting after changes were made to the resolution's language. The resolution no longer dilutes Israel's control over aid deliveries to Gaza. Israel, however, remains opposed to a ceasefire and is focused on eradicating Hamas and freeing hostages. The resolution received mixed reactions from Hamas and the Palestinian Authority, with the former calling it insufficient and the latter seeing it as a step towards alleviating the suffering in Gaza.
