US, Mexico see headway on migration as Blinken pays emergency visit

Top Mexican and US officials made progress in emergency talks on curbing migration as secretary of state Blinken visited Mexico City and Republican Party pressed Biden for a migration crackdown. Mexican leaders shared new measures, including cracking down on smugglers. As a new caravan of migrants headed towards the US border, the US and Mexico prioritized reopening legal crossings. Biden meanwhile proposed package funds for additional Border Patrol agents to tackle Republican hardliners who show little sign of compromise.
