Major Japan quake triggers tsunami waves, residents told to run

Powerful earthquakes strike central Japan, causing tsunami waves. The Noto region in Ishikawa prefecture is heavily affected. Tsunami waves as high as 1.2 meters hit Wajima port in Ishikawa. Thousands of households are without power in Toyama, Ishikawa, and Niigata prefectures. Buildings are damaged, highways are closed, and bullet train services are suspended. The Shika nuclear power plant reports no abnormalities. Japan's strict construction regulations aim to withstand earthquakes. The Fukushima nuclear plant disaster in 2011 remains a haunting memory. Tokyo was devastated by a massive earthquake in 1923.
