Applications for US unemployment benefits dropped for a second consecutive week, reaching the lowest level since early July. Initial claims fell by 7,000 to 227,000, signaling a moderate job market despite recent hiring pullbacks. Meanwhile, continuing claims also saw a decline to 1.86 million, and US retail sales surged in July, largely driven by a rebound in car sales.
